We stay at Gulfstream Park for the third day in a row, and today we go from the Tapeta track to the turf course today for today’s featured race. Today we have three-year-old fillies going a mile and a sixteenth on the turf course today.
Gulfstream Race 9 – Optional Claiming
The 7 Origami is the 5/2 morning line favorite in today’s finale at Gulfstream. She finished third in the Cecil B. DeMille at Del Mar in December. She is second race off of a layoff and second race in North America. This filly shows up at Gulfstream today and will love the added ground today versus the last race last month.
The 3 Ramsey Pond (3/1 ML) finished third last time out in the Wait a While at Gulfstream Park. She will go an extra furlong today for today’s optional claiming race. This filly closed last time out and will enjoy the extra distance here as well.
The 4 Lush Lips (4/1 ML) drew off impressively to break her maiden on the Tapeta here in November. She returns to the turf today where she should excel. I’m willing to throw out that performance at Kentucky Downs in September. She finished second in a field of 15 in Ireland back in August, and if you know me, I love playing horses that race in these super large fields.
The 2 Flip Flops (8/1 ML) ran fifth in an allowance at Keeneland that does not look as bad as it looks in the program. She made a nice move from the back of the pack after some issues at the start of the race. I’m concerned about the layoff but can get a bit here possibly with a better start.
Joe’s Pick
This is a race that appears to be a race devoid of speed. I think Lush Lips will go for the lead, and the only other one that I think can is the 8 Cheese (15/1 ML). There will be a mad dash to the finish in this race.
I think that Ramsey Pond, Flip Flops and Origami have the best shot to close to win this race. I’ll take Ramsey Pond here in a close one. I’ll call this 3-7-2-4 and my play is $20 to win on the 3. Best of luck everyone and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
