Earlier this week, I was informed that I had to deliver a letter of apology to several football conferences who were victims of my tirades over the past football season. Unfortunately, I decided that instead of apologizing to them, I would address why they were targets this season. With that said, here is my letter to the College Football Nazis that decided that I owed them something this offseason.
I start off where the most obvious target, the ACC. I am sorry that your conference cared more about victories and championships than reputations. Sure, you got one of the most CON-troversial schools in the country in Miami, but as long as you guys are playing in big games every year, it doesn't matter.
It's clear that the reputation of Bobby Bowden didn't mean squat as you were quick to back up the AD in his demanding of Bowden's departure. That being said, the only bright spot of this offseason came from the hands of Bowden himself as his Seminoles sent him off into the sunset with a huge victory in the Gator Bowl.
Up next is the Big Ten Conference. Why were you guys targeted? Because you were easy to pick on. All year, we heard how high and mighty your conference was, but in the end, none of the teams you called powerful were that. Iowa lost to a weaker Northwestern team, and Penn State lost to that very same Iowa team. Ohio State didn't do much better as even though they won another conference championship, no one wanted them in a BCS Bowl. It may have something to do with the fact that everytime they are in a BCS game, they get stomped on like the WAC and Mountain West.
Then there's the Big XII Conference, who did anything and everything in their power to tell people to run right over them. Right off the bat, their so-called powerhouse school Oklahoma got stunned in Dallas by an underrated BYU Cougars team from, you guessed it, the Mountain West Conference.
Then their next powerhouse Texas had to survive several close calls, all the while calling themselves the most complete team in the country. But in the process of all this, Nebraska was getting zero respect from anyone. And the Huskers almost defeated those very same Longhorns in the Big XII Championship. But leave it to the Big XII officials to make sure that they had yet another team in the BCS Championship.
Next on the docket is the Mountain West Conference and WAC Conference as well. You two conferences have got to be the dumbest conferences in the country. Every year, they have at least one undefeated team in the mix, but every year, they manage to have such a weak schedule that the chicken from Family Guy couldn't throw a strong enough punch to propel you into the BCS Championship Game.
Again this year, you had two undefeated teams who looked strong enough on paper, but their schedule made it an easy choice to pick against them. Here's a thought next year: Put more power teams on the schedule...then see the votes for BCS Championship flow right in.
Up next is the Pac-10 Conference. Jealousy will only get you so far, but apparently you guys didn't know that. Here's the thing that gets me the most about the Pac-10. Their beloved Trojans didn't do enough to stop the likes of Oregon and Stanford, and they barely made it pass Oregon State. But in the end, the Ducks did enough to clinch the conference and a trip to the Rose Bowl.
But yet, the conference wasn't happy about that. So their plan was simple: Make sure that Ohio State, who hadn't won a BCS Game since their Championship run, defeats Oregon to send a message that USC is the only one worthy enough of the Rose Bowl??? Now that's a dumb move.
But it wouldn't be fair of me to not include the SEC and its army of blind as a bat referees. The officiating of the SEC was under such a severe microscope this season, that they should have fired every official employed by the conference and replaced them with actual blind officials.
Despite the bad officiating, questionable calls and plays and egos clashing on a daily basis (Lane Kiffin, Nick Saban, Les Miles, Urban Meyer), the SEC is on the verge of winning their fourth straight BCS Championship and their fifth one altogether. In other words, the SEC has a shot at history. LSU and Florida have delivered a pair of championships each. Now it's Alabama's turn. But hopefully, the officials will finally call a game right down the middle.
This isn't a complete trash and bash, but a warning shot to all the conferences. It's a message that when next season comes around, bring your 'A' Game with you. Otherwise, you'll just show up back on this list next January. In fact, I can almost guarantee that some of you will show up on this list...because ignorance is bliss and stupidity runs rampant.
haha. nice...
