ghostbusters, spirits and demons, japanese anime, ghost sweeper
This is an opinion of an independent viewer who hardly knows anything about the anime and has never seen one before in full. My first idea is that Ghost Sweeper Mikami: The Great Paradise Battle slightly reminds of Ghostbusters and it totally in Japanese taste. College term paper or research paper do not seem so frightening after this for the film is about terrible ghosts and spirits and people who try to kill all of them. The plot is not sophisticated and reminds of ordinary TV series where new characters emerge all the time. The film is about vital social problems though, namely overcrowding. What would happen if there was too little space left on Earth? I really hope that homeless spirits will not become the major problem of humanity, as it is the case in the film. New professions emerge even in this crazy world. These have nothing to do with management and organizational change which are of such high demand in our world – these are the Ghost Sweepers. Their name correctly suggests that their primary task is not to find sweet little homes for sweet little ghosts.

The film abounds with different Gods, demons, monsters, divine staff, etc. and does not have a definite storyline. It is largely dependent on character development. The characters are indeed numerous; they come and go and it is they who construct the plot by their development. I should mention that this is quite an interesting approach to the plot development; it makes it resemble some American series, such as Law & Order, for example, where there are several primary characters and a variety of secondary ones who differ from series to series.
In general, I cannot say anything bad about the film. It might seem ridiculous and senseless to somebody who is not interested in watching movies about different evil spirits, but, let’s face it, this is what one should be ready for when agreeing to watch a Japanese anime.
